Award Winners in the Community
We are very proud to be able to get involved in initiatives to support our local community and one of our latest has proved to be award-winning.
11th July marked the date of Adlington Carnival, one of the few major traditional carnivals still to be held in the region. Held for some 40 years, the idea of Adlington Carnival was originally brought to fruition by local traders, who felt that such an event would bring more business and people to the village. Several celebrities have been involved over the years, including Cilla Black, Frank Bruno, Frank Carson, Tommy Cooper and Coronation Street’s Jack and Vera Duckworth.
For the past three years, Seddon Construction has very kindly loaned the use of a pick-up to Adam Jackson of Winget for it to be decorated as a float for use by Adlington Community Nursery. Adam’s daughter attends the nursery and her older sister is a former attendee but has since moved on to primary school.
This year the pick-up was decorated along the theme of ‘Mini Beasts and Bugs’. Last year’s theme was ‘101 Dalmations’ and in 2013 it was decorated as ‘Old McDonald’s Farm.’ This year’s theme proved to be an absolute cracker and the float not only won ‘Best School and Nursery Float’ but also ‘Best Overall Float Winner’ which is an amazing result. A big well done to all of the team that transformed it.
Not only was Seddons well represented on the float front but Ged Waddington of District Garage was also in attendance playing in the Rivington & Adlington Brass Band. The band has a busy schedule of events and contests in and around Chorley, Bolton and across the North West. Ged proudly adorned his Seddons corporate clothing whilst playing at the Carnival.
