Head to Head with the Pros
Our Scottish Area Manager Andy Daniels recently came head to head with over 70 legendary ex-international and professional rugby players at an International Rugby Veterans Rugby 10’s Tournament in Scotland in aid of several different charities. Andy plays for Marr Rugby, a community rugby club based in Troon, who were one of five teams pitched against each other in the charity tournament.
The aim of the event was to celebrate Veteran rugby and to allow over 35’s club players to meet and play against some of the biggest names in world rugby. Players who participated included Thinus Delport, a South African ex rugby union player who played for Worcester Warriors and South Africa, Scottish international Gordon Bulloch and Maea David, a New Zealand rugby union coach and former rugby league player who played professionally in England and Australia.
Andy told us that playing in the tournament was a fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime experience. So far, Marr Rugby has raised some £1,400 for Maggie’s Cancer Centres which provide support for anyone with any type of cancer and their family and friends.
